Lost In Translation

Years ago, I believe I was still single then, I was sitting in the drive thru line at a local McDonald’s waiting to place my order.  A male employee came out the back door doing a trash run to the dumpster.

As the guy starts walking back toward the restaurant, he stops dead in his tracks and looks at me for the longest time.  This was during the summer so I had my windows down.  I don’t think I’ve ever owned a vehicle with good air conditioning, but that’s a topic for another post.

Anyway, this guy is just standing there, staring at me.  All of a sudden he says, “You speak Spanish?”  “Um, no.”, I replied.  He continues to stare, then says, “You speak Mexican?”  To that I said “Ah, no, don’t speak Mexican either.”

He looks at me with a quizzical look on his face then says “Well, you look like one.”  I didn’t know what to say and by the time what he had said sunk in, he was already walking into the back door of the building.

If I had thought quickly enough, I should have said “Adios Amigo!”
